Fire-safety is the main priority during the use of the fireplace. With the help of fireplace door, you can protect yourself from coals and sparks, getting accidentally from the fire-chamber to the room. The fireplace doors are intended for the fire protection. But the fire must be visible in the fireplace, or else it loses its meaning. After all, the fireplace must not just heat rooms but also allow admiring living flame.

The construction of fireplace doors

To create a panoramic effect, the fireplace doors are made of refractory glass. The perimeter of the glass is surrounded with metal frame, containing the layer of temperature-resistant heater. As a matter of fact, glass is the transparent ceramics, so it can withstand the temperature up to 800ºC. The configuration of fireplace door depends on the design of trunk. At that, it occupies the whole fire-chamber or the most of its front part.

The size of the glass can be small, medium-sized and big, while the geometrical forms are performed in the following variants: arched, rectangular, trapezoidal, oval, round, convex or flat.

The medium-sized fireplace doors have the sides of 65-90 cm. There are different options of shutting the glass fireplace doors. The most comfortable of them are: swing door, double swing door, the door closed up and vertically.

According to the construction, the fireplace door can consist of one or several rigidly mounted parts. Each of these parts is framed with compactor and built into the door leaf. The material, allowing the best flame visibility, is the panoramic glass. It’s not divided into the parts, and its space almost equals the dimensions of door. Such construction fits for the big fireplace in the country-house, having a chimney flue.

There the material of fireplace doors must meet the same requirements, irrespective of its form. If it is a corner fireplace with a figured leaf, it can be mostly made of metal (for example, refractory steel or cast iron), with the use of stained glass. Unlike the whole glass fire place door, the stained glass allows combining different toning and texture of material.

As for the open fire-chamber, you can use the wrought fireplace door, playing the role of protective screen. They’re fastened with the help of hinges and opened as the door leaves. Their main function is decorative, as they don’t protect indoors from the coals.
